Green Demon Soup

So, I've been posting lots of my soup recipes for my Pinterest Monthly Recipe Challenge.  January is soup month, and we eat a lot of soup anyway.  I've also been wanting to try some "green smoothies."  Although, juicing and green smoothies bring to mind my sister, and her fermenting chia seeds that she'd leave around when she was going through her green smoothie phase.  The gross little seeds looked like little fleas or something and would surprise you when you looked in the cup left on the counter.  They were not very appetizing at all.  Anyway, I digress!  I've been having a hard time eating regularly during the day, with the two babies being very demanding, so I thought something like a smoothie would be helpful.

But, since January is soup month, I thought I could try a green soup instead.  I had a bunch of spinach and some asparagus.  So I actually combined two recipes, this one and this one.  I added a little too much stock, I think--since I used fresh spinach, it released a lot of liquid.  But everything turned out tasting nicely.  The problem was in the blending.

This might be a rookie mistake when making soup, but I've made lots of soup and it's never happened to me before.  The blender kind of exploded.  And I was even holding the lid down, with a towel.  Something to do with the heat of the soup creating pressure...whatever.  Demon soup! Picture green everywhere--walls, window, blinds, toaster, and all over yours truly.  On my chest and arm.  Oh well, it's not like I have two babies who spend almost the entire day being cuddled and nursed.  OH WAIT.

It actually wasn't that bad.  I had these gel ice packs specifically for treating pain related to breastfeeding, so I just popped one of those in my shirt and EJ helped me clean up the kitchen.  In the end, it was a little more trouble than I had anticipated, but it tasted good.

  1. I'm sorry but I am laughing! I did this same thing two weeks after I was married. It took forever to get the pea soup off of everything.

  2. Take it from someone who doesn't make soup. I leave that up to the "Soup Nazi", a.k.a. my husband! LOL I so applaud you for nursing your babies. I nursed my two children for at least a year and a half after they were born.
