No Fun Flu

Last weekend EJ let me sleep in.  He took the awake baby and I continued to sleep next to the quiet one. So this Saturday I expected hoped for the same thing. I could tell he wasn't in a great mood, though, and so then I wasn't in a good mood. He worked on his computer for a while and then wanted to take a nap.   It's weird--during the week I can be alone all day with the babies. But if EJ is in the house, I expect him to be helping me, not napping or taking time for himself. It's not fair, but I think it's a special kind of resentment for co-parents of multiple children.

Turns out he's got flu. Sunday he had a temperature of 102. I quarantined him to the bedroom and the babies and I spent time playing in the nursery and downstairs. I compulsively checked for fevers all day. I ran up and down the stairs with tea, water, Ibuprofen, and I even let EJ use my fever-reducer cool gel patch things that I use for migraines. We ordered Chinese. I spent the night on a pallet in the babies' room. EJ asked if I felt like I was taking care of triplets. The flu is no fun. I just hope that none of us catch it. I've been carrying a bottle of Lysol and some hand sanitizer around with me.

Also, I found this yummy sounding recipe for Clove Coconut Tea, which is supposed to be great for sore throats. (Sore throat is the only thing EJ hasn't been complaining of, but I'm sure this will do wonders anyway). Basically you make some tea, add whole cloves, some honey and a tablespoon of virgin coconut oil. I can't wait to try it.

What are your go-to remedies?

  1. In class today we were talking about natural home remedies and one student said that in her family they cut a raw onion and put it on the bedside table by the sick person and it absorbs all the germs. Hmmm. Maybe EJ needs to wake up to a freshly cut onion!
